I am sure that whoever is reading this was much closer to Dr. Keller than I. As someone who only knew him through his recorded sermons and videos, it is my hope to communicate the profound impact Dr. Keller had on my life so that those who were closer to him may find another reason to marvel at how far reaching his work has been.
Almost every day I sit down at work and listen to a sermon by Dr. Keller. His humor, insight, intelligence and faithfulness have carried The LORD’S voice into my heart in a way no other preacher has managed. For me these past few years have been characterized by a struggle with a besetting sin that has caused alot of collateral damage. Shame and grief has threatened to tear me down. By the grace of God I found the courage to hear his word and often through the voice of Dr. Keller. He was able to speak the truth with a firmness, humanity and love that time and again softened my hardened heart.
The greatest lesson I have learned from Dr. Keller, is that the world does not revolve around a transaction paradigm. The purpose of our lives is not to earn, buy and achieve. What Dr. Keller has taught me is that the gospel changed everything. That the human heart responds to love in such a way that saves the soul and changes lives in a real, permanent and complete way. We live in paradigm of love. Where the sacrificial love and grace of Christ is the only thing that will heal this world and that its the only thing I need. Timothy Keller showed me that.
Thank you Dr. Keller for all of your work here on earth. I am grieved to lose you and overjoyed that you are now with The LORD. My prayers go out to the friends and family of Tim Keller in their time of grief.
